Die Masterarbeit „Fundraising in Bibliotheken – ein Desiderat?!“ von Sabine Bachofner und Iris Hoffmann ermöglicht repräsentative Aussagen zum Einsatz von Fundraising in Bibliotheken in Deutschland, Österreich und der Schweiz. Die Finanzierung der Biblio- theken, das Thema Fundraising, dessen Einsatz in den USA sowie eine Literaturstudie zum Einsatz von Fundraising in deutschsprachigen Bibliotheken bilden den Theorieteil. Ausgehend von der Hypothese, dass sich die Mehrheit der Bibliotheken mit dem Themenbereich des Fundraisings auseinandersetzt und es durchaus zum Einsatz bringt, wurden 119 zufällig ausgewählte Öffentliche und Wissenschaftliche Bibliotheken in öffentlicher Trägerschaft zu deren Vorgehen befragt. Die Befragungsmethode hierfür war das Computer Assisted Telephone Interview (CATI). Die Hypothese konnte durch die Befragung bestätigt werden. Die Professionalität und Systematik des Einsatzes von Fundraising war nicht Bestandteil der Hypothese. Diesbezüglich zeigen die Resultate der Befragung auf, dass eine Minderheit der befragten Bibliotheken Fundraising institutionalisiert hat. Die quantitative Befragung wird durch eine qualitative Untersuchung ergänzt. Es werden vier Best Practice Beispiele aus dem Bibliotheks- und einem weiteren Kulturbereich bzgl. ihres systematischen Einsatzes von Fundraising charakterisiert. |

The Masters thesis “Fundraising in Libraries – A Desideratum?!”, by Sabine Bachofner and Iris Hoffmann, offers representative conclusions regarding the fundraising prac- tices of libraries in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The thesis begins with a theoretical section which treats the practices of library financing, the subject of fundraising and its management in the U.S.A. and presents a literature study of fundraising in German-speaking libraries. The thesis is based upon the hypothesis that the majority of libraries use fundraising and its instruments to increase their income. In a quantitative study using Computer Assisted Telephone Interviews (CATI) 119 randomly selected public and scientific libraries were asked about their use of fundraising. The interviews confirmed the hypothesis. The analysis of the systematic and professional use of fundraising showed that a minority of libraries implement a fundraising policy. A qualitative study complemented the quantitative questionnaire, four best practice examples give an insight about how libraries and one further cultural institution use fundraising in a systematic way. |
